Deep calls to deep in the roar of your torrents, and all your waves and breakers sweep over me. - Palm 42:8

There’s two types of overwhelm: the overwhelm of life, bills, responsibilities, emotions, needs, demands…and the overwhelm of peace, mercy, love, and consolation from God the Father. Most of us have felt the first type, but most of us have also never experienced the second type.
I think that comes from fear. We build our walls and our foundations firmly on “I can do this, I can handle this” and we become afraid that if we’re weak, if we can’t do this and we can’t handle this, then that lowers our value in the eyes of others —or even in our own eyes. But if we’re never willing to admit we’re weak or need help, why would we ever need consoling, encouragement, or support? What room do we give God to step into our overwhelm?
Sometimes courage looks like laying down your defenses and admitting God needs to step in and flood us with his goodness and help. You can start by saying these few, simple words: “Lord, I need you right now.”
